caption: GENSERICO (25 January 400 - 477) king of the Vandals and the Alani from 428, first in the Iberian Peninsula and then in Africa. A key figure in the twilight of the Western Roman Empire, he led the Vandals, the Alani and a part of the Visigoths disbanded from the Iberian peninsula to North Africa, founding a kingdom that in a few years led the Germanic people to be one of the major Mediterranean powers; in 455 he led the Vandals in the Sack of Rome.
