caption: ARBITRARY COLORS: chromatic variations of a composition of a danse macabre that ironically juxtaposes a skeleton/death with a female nude/life in similar poses against a naturalistic background. Ando noted the idea on the February 24th page of his "ideas diary," where he also wrote that he would execute three variations. He then experimented with many more. Shades of blue, light blue, and orange for the subjects, magenta and green for the background. This sophisticated process of arbitrary creative coloring was developed by Ando Gilardi (1921 - 2012) #andogilardi in the 1970s. It is a photographic technique of great expressive power and versatility, with results that can be defined as precursors of subsequent digital processing. Color G, Milan, 1970.
