Emma ORCZY (23 September 1865 - 12 November 1947) British writer of Hungarian origin, known mainly for having conceived the popular literary saga "The red primrose" in 12 titles (the last unpublished) published since 1905. Set in France of Terror, the saga tells the adventures of the mysterious character who, ardent defender of the nobility persecuted by the revolutionaries, strives to save as many as he can from the guillotine; the counter-revolutionary monarchist hero hides behind the unsuspecting remains of the English meek Sir Percy Blakeney. Noble by birth, family events tore Emma from the comfortable country estate where she was born to take her through Budapest and Paris to London, where she arrived fifteen and finally felt at home again. From the marriage of love with the painter Montague Barstow was born John Montague Orczy-Barstow, also later writer with the pseudonym of John Blakeney, in clear tribute to the protagonist of the maternal successes. Lover of travels, Emma shared the residences of Monte Carlo and Lerici with her husband as well as the London residence. Photographic portrait in the studio in front of a jar of alchechengi, circa 1915
