caption: Napoleon BONAPARTE (15 August 1769 - 5 May 1821) in Russia, meets Tsar Alexander I in Tilsit, on a floating pontoon set up on the Niemen River, which at the time marked the limit of the two territories. With the Treaty of Tilsit (7 July 1807) between Napoleon and Alexander I, Russia re-acquired Silesia, Brandenburg and Pomerania; Napoleon formed the duchy of Warsaw which he gave to the Duke of Saxony, and the kingdom of Westphalia which he assigned to his brother Jerome. Russia left Moldova and Wallachia. The Peace of Tilsit put an end to the war of the Fourth Coalition.
