The construction of the Alta Dam started in 1960 and ended on July 21st 1970, while the creation of the basin that would welcome the waters was completed in 1964, including the works of displacement of archaeological monuments that otherwise would have been submerged by Lake Nasser; from that moment it had begun to fill gradually, even if the dam had not yet been completed, until reaching the maximum capacity in 1976.
