Anton Raphael MENGS (12 March 1728 - 29 June 1779) German painter, art historian and art critic, also active in Rome and Madrid. Born in Bohemia and trained in Dresden with his father Ismael, court painter, he followed him to Rome, where he was able to study the forms of antiquity and the art of Raphael.
