caption: Saint ZITA (1218 - 27 April 1278) a pious Christian from Lucca of humble origins, she began to serve as a young girl with the wealthy Fatinelli family, distinguishing herself for her dedication to work and the charity she directed to support the poorest, to whom she devoted all its resources. An episode dear to popular devotion, recurring with few variations in the cult of other humble saints, is attributed to her: the merit of the owner's family, conquered by her kindness, would have aroused the envy of another servant, who would have insinuated the doubt that she cared to donate to charity goods actually stolen from the family. Meeting her on the street with her swollen apron, Fatinelli then asked her to confess what she was hiding inside the shoes; although she was bringing some bread to the poor, intimidated Zita replied that she was bringing flowers and fronds, and when she had to untie her apron, flowers and fronds fell prodigiously. In addition to the Archdiocese of Lucca, the Diocese of Massa Carrara - Pontremoli also commemorates on April 27 this saint whose father would be from the Borgo di Succisa, in the municipality of Pontremoli.
