caption: Santa BIBIANA (347/352 - 361/363), a young Roman Christian who traditionally suffered martyrdom in Rome under Flavio Claudio Giuliano the Apostate. Of a wealthy family, her parents and her older sister would fall victim to persecution and their confiscated assets; to the young, fifteen, he would have been offered salvation if he had agreed to remain at the service of a mezzanine. Standing in faith and in his principles, he died in death with 'piombata', scourges incommended with lead balls. Commemoration on 2 December. Colored Etching, Italy 1886
