caption: St. Gregory the Taumaturgo (about 213 - about 270) bishop of ancient Greece. Born in Neocesarea del Ponto, in present-day Turkey, a teenager was a disciple of Origen, who converted him to Christianity. Consecrated bishop in his native town, he soon converted nearly all the population. It is remembered with the name of a taumaturgo for the multitude of miracles attributed to life, among which the popular devotion tells that he stopped planting his stick on the ground the impetus of a river full that threatened the city.
