caption: Jacopo SANSOVINO (2 July 1486 - 27 November 1570), the name by which Jacopo Tatti, Italian architect and sculptor, is best known. Born in Florence, after a period of apprenticeship and the beginnings between Rome and his hometown, in 1527 he arrived in Venice preceded by a certain fame. Presented to the doge Andrea Gritti by Cardinal Grimani, he began a long collaboration with the office of the greatest architect, including, among other works, the renovation of Piazza San Marco. The oval portrait is enclosed in a frame decorated with allegorical figures and arts instruments.
