caption: Santa CATERINA DA GENOVA (April 5, 1447 - September 15, 1510), to the century Caterina Fieschi Adorno, an Italian religious and mystical, known as 'Doctor of Purgatory' for his 'Treatise of Purgatory'. Born in the noble Fieschi family, he received an education worthy of his rank; still a young woman married Giuliano Adorno, a marriage of convenience designed to make up the dissensions between the two powerful Genoese families, but not for that less successful. In the first ten years, the couple from whom no children were born led the agitated worldly life to consonant with their status, then on 24 March 1473 Catherine had a mystical vision that determined his religious conversion, to which he soon followed that of his husband . The two abandoned their efforts and moved to a home near Pammatone Hospital; Giuliano became a Tertiary Tertiary, Catherine worked to transpose his mystical experience into the writings, while providing assistance to the poor and the sick. He became a director of the hospital, and he continued to physically treat the patients even during the plague epidemic of 1463, a disease that contracted in the office of his duties but from which he recovered. Commemoration on September 15, the day of death (Dies Natalis, birth in the sky). Colored Etching, Italy 1886
