caption: BUONAMIC OF MARTINO (circa 1290 - 1340) said Buffalmacco, an Italian painter independent of the school of Giotto, the foremost representative of Gothic painting in Tuscany. His witty and ludicrous indole made him the protagonist of some literary works, including Boccaccio Decameron. The portrait is enclosed in a frame decorated with caryatids holding the tools of art and an allegory of painting.
