CERILE (Ceryle). Genus of birds belonging to the Alcedinidae family. They feed, like the Kingfisher or Bird Santa Maria, of fish that they grab with their huge beak, flying to the surface of rivers and ponds. Widespread in the Americas, Asia and Africa. Color illustrated plate by Wilhelm Kuhnert (1865-1926) from the work "Life of Animals" by the German biologist and naturalist Alfred Edmund Brehm (1829-1884), Vol. 5 Birds, edition of 1893.
