caption: SCHOOL The janitor greets the children as they leave at the end of the first day of lessons of the 1955/1956 school year in the ''Michele Coppino'' elementary school in Turin. Born as a rural school with the name ''Scuola Crocetta'', whose presence was already attested in 1876, in 1903 the elementary school occupied the new building built in an area previously occupied by an orphanage, and was named after the Minister of Public Education promoter of the law which, fighting against illiteracy, brought compulsory schooling to three years and free access up to the fifth grade.
