caption: SAN Mamerto (? - about 475), archbishop of Vienna by 452, introduced in Gaul minor Rogation, a collection of prayers, processions and penances that he performed three days before the day of the Ascension from the city to ward a series of misfortunes and natural disasters, which had culminated in an earthquake. San Mamerto (with San Pancrazio, Saint Servatius, Saint Boniface of Tarsus and Saint Sophia in Rome) is part of the popularly called the "Ice Saints" group, because they are commemorated on days 11 to 15 May in which traditionally experience a temporary return to the cold climate, generally consecutive starting dall'11-13 for three days depending on the latitudes.
