In the summer of 196 BC, at the opening of the Isthmian Games in Corinth, before thousands of people gathered from all over Greece, Titus Quinctius Flamininus (229 BC - 174 BC), a Roman soldier and politician belonging to the gens Quinctia, ended the Second Macedonian War by announcing, in the name of the Roman Senate, the liberation and independence of all Greece. Illustrated plate no. 21 from "Roman History" by Charles Rollin (January 30, 1661 – September 14, 1741), "engraved in copperplate by the eminent Bartolomeo Pinelli Romano (November 20, 1781 – April 1, 1835), and engraved by Raffaele Persichini."
