Imprisoned in Alexandria during the persecution of Septimius Severus, he left his widow with seven orphans the first of which, the future theologian Origen, held other teaching and selling his manuscripts. Not being able to join his father in prison, the young Origen, seventeen, addressed him a letter in which fervently encouraged him and supported in martyrdom.
