caption: Santa MONICA, matron (331 - 27 August 387), mother of Agostino d'Ippona and two other sons, male and female. He imparted to all three a Christian education and suffered greatly from the dissolute conduct of Augustine. When he moved to Rome he decided to follow him, but he with a stratagem left her in Carthage, while they were embarking for Rome. He later joined his son in Milan; his prayers and discussions on philosophical and spiritual themes, held in high esteem by the future Father and Doctor of the church, contributed to his conversion. The commemoration at the time of the press was celebrated on April 20, the Roman Martyrology of 2001 fixes the liturgical memory on August 27, the day of death (Dies Natalis, birth to heaven).
