caption: San CASIMIRO (October 3, 1458 - March 4, 1484) Prince of Krakow and Grand Duke of Lithuania, revered as the patron saint of Poland and Lithuania by the Catholic Church. Third son of King Casimir IV, showed a very young age a great devotion to the Virgin, and a predisposition to deal with most of the needs of his people that the war events of his reign; in the period in which he held the regency ruled with wisdom and justice. He died of tuberculosis contracted perhaps because of the weakness of the body, worn out by vigils and fasting.
