Saint Sereno (? - 307), martyr. Christian of Greek origin, to escape persecution moved near Sirmium in Pannonia (now Serbia), where he kept a discreet and private life, cultivating his garden alone. According to tradition, a young noblewoman evening went into his garden, and to the question of the saint replied that he was there simply for walking; But the gardener warned that staying outside the home alone at that hour not befitting an honorable woman, who would be exposed to the wickedness of the people, and mailed firmly home to her husband. The young, offense, complained to her husband that she was taken in bad words, and he denounced Clear. In court, the saint set forth the facts and neither the husband nor the judge were able to experience a real offense, so that her husband withdrew the charges. The judge, however, suspicious behavior by the rigorous and unusually moralistic gardener, sensing that he was a Christian the questioned on his costumes and asked if he sacrificed to the Roman gods. Sereno is professed Christian and, having refused to sacrifice to the gods, died beheaded. Commemoration February 23. colored engraving, Italy 1886
