caption: Saint LUDANO (? - 1202), confessor and of Scottish descent pilgrim. Son of Itiboldo, head of the Scots, he used the estates inherited from his father to found a hospice for pilgrims, the sick, the blind and the lame. Then he sets off on a pilgrimage; on the return, after visiting the Holy Sepulchre and the tombs of the Apostles Peter and Paul, near a village in Alsace he slept under an elm tree and had the divine revelation that it was his moment. Having prayed not to let him die without having taken Communion, an angel came down from heaven, and the Eucharist brought, so he died in peace.
