Saint Agate (September 8 229/235 - February 5 251), young Catanese lived during proconsulship Quinziano. Of rich and noble family, he consecrated himself to God when he was fifteen; imprisoned with his family following the edict of Emperor Decius, was the subject of Quinziano attention, which he entrusted to Aphrodisias courtesan and her daughters, probably he priestesses devoted to sacred prostitution, because persuaded to withdraw from their convictions; nor the blandishments of women, nor the torture tore the faith. The night after the amputated with tongs breasts, St Peter visited her in jail accompanied by an angel, healing his wounds. He died after the torment of burning coals. Patron saint of bell-founders and of women with breast cancer, as well as several Italian and foreign cities, is venerated by the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church as holy, virgin and martyr; commemoration on February 5. colored engraving, Italy 1886
