Christian ascetic, he chose to live for his last 37 years at the top of a column, the better to devote himself to contemplation and prayer, but without completely estranged from the world: it was available every day to receive pilgrims and visitors, who could approach him with a scale; also entertained correspondence with eminent personalities of the time, including the tradition counts St. Genevieve of Paris.
