Marie-Anne de Mailly-Nesles (1717-1744) Marquise de la Tournelle, Duchess of CHATEAUROUX. Widow of the Marquis de la Tournelle to the age of 23, reached at court her sisters and how they agreed, when the king became infatuated with her, after having contracted conditions, to become the favorite of Louis XV. At court it soon became quite powerful, making many enemies because of his fiery behavior, ambitious and standards of living extravagantly gorgeous. Having convinced the king to command himself his armies in the War of Austrian Succession, against the advice of the royal family, she accompanied him to Metz, but the King fell ill and returned to Paris in 1744, after having dismissed for reasons of convenience. Humiliated and angry, she had to leave it, but as soon as he recovered and called her back to court, while flocked meditating vengeance, was himself seized with sudden illness, and died before he could see again.
