ELIZABETH of Habsburg (July 5, 1554 – January 22, 1592) Archduchess of Austria, daughter of the future Emperor Maximilian II and Maria of Spain, daughter of Charles V. She married Charles IX, King of France, with whom she had a daughter; shortly after his death, she returned to Austria, where she founded a Poor Clare convent and lived, dedicating herself to the poor and the sick. Depiction inspired by the portrait painted by François Clouet in 1572. Colored lithograph, France, 19th century.
