Johannes Oecolampadius (1482 - 1531) theologian, humanist and Swiss reformer. Born Johannes Heussgen, according to the custom of the time among the humanists his name has been translated into one of the two classical languages, in this case, the greek: oikos (house) and lampas (lamp). After joining the Reformation he was forced to leave the convent and was taken on as chaplain in the castle of Franz von Sickingen. He is remembered for his translations of the Church Fathers, and for his role in some meetings of nodal importance for the Reformation.
