In the illustration a rather ragged knight rides a miserable nag from the legs broken and batten, showing smiling a coin from a mark. The turkish-German alliance, which resulted in the entry of the Ottoman war in the First World War at the side of the Central Powers, was a diplomatic agreement between the Ottoman Empire and the German Empire 2 August 1914.
