Amilcare CIPRIANI (1843-1918) Italian patriot and internationalist anarchist. His career as an ardent revolutionary began when, just fourteen, lying about his age, he took part in the battle of San Martino; Garibaldi then followed and after the Aspromonte episode he took refuge in Greece. From there he passed to Egypt and then to Paris, Candia, Italy again, and to London where he worked as a photographer, met and photographed Mazzini and Queen Victoria. He participated in the Paris Commune, where he was eventually captured and deported to New Caledonia, to return in 1881 (not permanently) to Italy. Giuseppe Prezzolini describes it thus in an interview collected in Paris and published in 1914 in the Avanti: "... sixty-eight years, of which twenty of wars, fourteen of bathing and forced labor, fifty-three of wandering, of poverty, of independence" .
