caption: LIU HUI (c.220 - c.280) Chinese mathematician who lived in the Wei Kingdom; in 263 he wrote the commentary on the Nine chapters of mathematical art, in which he expounded an algorithm for the estimation of Pi that exploited the measurement of regular polygons inscribed in a circle and which recalls similar constructions by Archimedes.
