subject date: 2019-07-20

caption: Ando GILARDI (June 8, 1921 - March 5, 2012) was a journalist, photographer, and photography historian. He made his debut in the post-World War II period, and his style remains unmistakable: ironic, nonconformist, and a brilliant technical pioneer in both journalism and the visual arts. Portrait by Dariush Radpour, colored pencil drawing on 30x21 cm paper for the "Tutto Libri" supplement of the daily newspaper "La Stampa" to mark the release of the new edition of his monumental essay "Social History of Photography" by Bruno Mondadori. The essay was first published by Feltrinelli (1976). Turin, 2000.
