caption: HISTORY OF THE WORKERS' MOVEMENT Welding department: work is in full swing in the Pignone of Florence occupied by the workers. When the owners decided to fire everyone and shut down the plant, work continued in self-management for a long period, from November '53 to January '54, to remove the specter of unemployment for the 1,750 workers. The agitation garnered widespread solidarity, and the dispute ended with Eni's acquisition of the factory abandoned by Snia Viscosa.
