caption: WEAPONS Gadget to the towers of a fortress during a war attack, reported by the historian Roberto Valturio (1405-1475) in Book X of his work 'De Re Militari', composed between 1446 and 1455 to celebrate its patron Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta. This war machine had its effectiveness to the new structure 'scissor'. The work in volume XII had already been widely disseminated in manuscript was produced in 1472 in Verona, the first printed edition, with woodcuts taken from the original drawings attribuititi to Matteo de 'Pasti, the first exemplar of a technique presented in print.
