caption: SIMEON THE CHILD (1472-1475) or Simonino da Trento (traditionally also known as San Simonino), venerated as blessed by the Catholic Church until 1965, when he was subsequently removed from the rite. The true story relates the discovery of a dead child on Easter Sunday 1475 in the waters of a ditch near a home of Jews living in Trento. His cult bears witness to the anti-Semitic discrimination suffered by the Jewish community, which was immediately accused (unjustly) of the child's death, presumably during the practice of rites involving human sacrifices ('ritual murder'), the so-called 'Bloody Easter' accusations.
