caption: AFRICA young women and men. The village belongs to an ethnic group called generically 'Pygmies', because of the short stature that made them compare from the first European explorers to a legendary dwarf people of Greek mythology. The term unites hunter-gatherer peoples also very distant and different from each other, and some consider it discriminating if not derogatory. In common, however, they have a lifestyle based on a deep knowledge and respect for the environment, and the lack of recognition of their territorial rights. According to Survival International, the global movement for the rights of indigenous peoples, as long as these rights are not recognized, no one will prevent outsiders and states from continuing to appropriate their lands, on which they depend to survive.
