FRUIT-GROWING flowering shrub of Chaenomeles japonica, to remember its oriental origins; the flowers of the chaenomeles are very reminiscent of the flowers of the apple trees, only towards the end of flowering also the leaves appear. In the spring, forward to the flowers, small fruits follow, similar to small quinces, with a sour and luscious taste; these are edible fruits, although they can only be eaten after cooking, they are sometimes used in compotes or jams, or added to other fruit jams, to make them more dense, given the pectin richness of these small apples.
