In the fifties of the twentieth century the risks and social costs connected with smoking were not yet recognized, and what would later be deplored as an instigation to smoking was then considered a benevolent exhortation to enjoy the pleasures of life; the law prohibiting the advertising of all smoking articles in Italy was promulgated in 1962.
