caption: Guglielmo MASSAJA (born Lorenzo Antonio Massaia, June 8, 1809 – August 6, 1889) was a missionary, depicted continuing to catechize despite his chains. A Servant of God, missionary, and explorer, he lived for approximately thirty-five years in Ethiopia, where he combined intense apostolic activity with the study of the local language and customs. He is the author of "My Thirty-Five Years of Mission in Upper Ethiopia," a work that remains fundamental to understanding that country. He belonged to the Capuchin Order.
