caption: FIGHT AGAINST PIGNONE the pantry of the company canteen in the Pignone factory, the employee takes out a box of vegetables for the cooks. When the owners decided to fire everyone and shut down the plant, work continued in self-management for a long period, from November '53 to January '54, to remove the specter of unemployment for the 1,750 workers. The agitation attracted widespread solidarity; during the period of occupation, food was supplied largely by the Florentine population and by workers' associations, as an expression of solidarity in the struggle.
