caption: Dietrich BONHOEFFER (4 February 1906 – 9 April 1945), German theologian, partisan and Protestant pastor in the German Evangelical parishes of Barcelona and London; a private lecturer in theology at the University of Berlin from 1932, he was one of the main exponents of the Confessing Church, which opposed Hitler. In 1936 he was banned from teaching at university. During the war he actively participated in the anti-Nazi resistance. In 1943 he was arrested and imprisoned in Tegel (Berlin). Later, in 1945, he was deported to Buchenwald, and then to Flossenburg, where he was hanged on 9 April. Photograph of the period of detention in the Tegel prison camp, between 1943 and 1945.
