The Matòci precede the procession of the Harlequins, they arrive one at a time in the village, announced by the tinkling of the cowbell they carry at life, and are stopped by the inhabitants who subject them to the contrèst, a ridiculous erotic-themed contradictory, aimed at discovering the identity of the person behind the mask. The skill of the matòcio consists in not being recognized, camouflaging his voice and trying to answer the questions without providing clues that could identify him.
