caption: BAGOLINO CARNIVAL. The dancers wear ritual garments, consisting of a jacket and trousers, decorated with intricate embroidery and trimmings, epaulettes, frogs, ranks, a shoulder strap with a cockade (all elements of military origin), a white shirt, tie, accessories, wool cuffs, yarn gloves, finely crafted white stockings, black high shoes, a large multicolored silk shawl pinned to the shoulders, an embroidered armband, and a scarf tightly wrapped around the head. Their faces are hidden by expressionless masks. The most distinctive element of the costume is the hat, covered with yards of curled red wool ribbon onto which gold and jewels borrowed from the families of the community are sewn. Attached to it is a showy bow of multicolored ribbons, whose rhythmic movement during the dance is accentuated by the dancer's shaking of the head. Photograph by Elena Piccini, 1997.
