The most distinctive element of the costume, however, is the hat, covered with yards of curled red wool ribbon onto which gold and jewels borrowed from the community's families are firmly sewn, alternating with small fragments of mirror. Attached to the hat is a showy bow of multicolored ribbons, whose rhythmic movement during the dance is deliberately accentuated by the dancer's shaking of his head.
