caption: MARIA GIUSEPPA ROSSELLO (1811-1880), founder of the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy. Initially a domestic servant and nurse, on the advice of Bishop Agostino M. de Mari, she and a few companions opened two schools in Savona, thus giving life to the new institute of the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy. Having received the habit in 1837, she took her vows in 1839. From 1840 she directed the Institute, which spread throughout Italy and America. She assisted the missionaries GB Olivieri and B.
