caption: Saint MAXIMILIAN MARIA KOLBE (8 January 1894 - 14 August 1941) Priest and martyr of the Friars Minor Conventual, founder of the Militia of the Immaculate in Rome in 1917 and of the ''City of the Immaculate'' of Niepokalanow (Poland). Died in the concentration camp of Auschwitz having spontaneously offered his life in exchange for that of a fellow prisoner, a father of a family. Beatified in 1971 by Pope Paul VI and proclaimed a saint by John Paul II on 10 October 1982. Photolithographic devotional card with a half-length photographic portrait from 1939, Poland around 1971.
