SAINT ROCH (1345/1350 – night between 15 and 16 August 1376/1379), French pilgrim and miracle worker, kneeling with the wound on his leg clearly visible, caused by the plague contracted by the sick to whom he devoted himself. Discovered by a dog (depicted with a loaf of bread in its mouth), the owner cared for it until it recovered. Saint Roch is therefore considered a protector against plagues. Feast day: 16 August. Chromolithographic image, Milan 1906.
