A detail from the photograph by Ando Gilardi (1921 - 2012). #andogilardi is part of the photo feature "Inchiesta tra gli ulivi (appendix)" (Investigation among the Olive Trees (appendix)). This was published in installments as a summary of the study on the working conditions of olive pickers in Calabria, conducted in November 1957 by a commission of inquiry composed of CGIL trade unionists and association and parliamentary figures of various backgrounds. The study was accompanied by a large series of images taken by the photographer. Published in "Lavoro," the trade union's weekly magazine. Italy, no. 1 of January 5, 1958.
