PETER II of Russia (23 October 1715 – 30 January 1730). Emperor of Russia from 8 May 1727 until his death. Son of Tsarevich Alexei and sole male heir of Tsar Peter the Great, he ascended the throne at the age of 11 upon the death of Catherine I after a long struggle between the aristocratic faction of the Dolgoruky and Marshal AD Menshikov; he died of smallpox after a few years.
