caption: FERMO (Ascoli Piceno) Historically illustrious, it arose in a place inhabited in the protohistoric age and then by the Piceni: in 264 BC it was a Roman colony with the name of Firmum Picenum. Quartered shield: in the first and fourth red, with a silver pomaded cross; in the second and third gold, with a black eagle, crowned with the same; the whole stamped with a noble family helmet with gold flourishes surmounted by a crossing arm in a pale emerging from a marquis' crown, dressed in white and holding a globe in his hand. Under the shield, the motto in a list in capital letters: ''FIRMVM FIRMA FIDES ROMANORVM COLONIA''. Chromolithograph, Edition A. Brioschi & C., Milan circa 1935.
