caption: CAGLIARI Provincial capital. The Phoenicians and then the Carthaginians, around the 6th century BC, created the first urban organization on an existing indigenous nucleus in which the two roles of fortress and emporium were combined. Quartered shield: in the first and fourth with the Savoy cross, in the second and third in silver, with a natural castle, open and with windows, turreted with three pieces, the middle one higher, founded on a rock emerging from the sea, all natural. The shield is decorated with palms, supported by two tritons and topped with a marquis' crown. Chromolithograph, Edition A. Brioschi & C., Milan around 1935.
