caption: BALILLA nicknamed Giovanni Battista Perasso (1729 / 1735-1781), the adolescent who, on December 5, 1746, in the Portoria district, flung a pebble against an Austrian officer who wanted to force the population to mince a deadly mortar for their enemy , and thus gave rise to the uprising that exiled the Austrians from Genoa. Lithograph depicting the statue dedicated to the young hero by Giovanni Battista Cevasco (1817 - 12 January 1891). The prototype in plaster, exposed to the public in the first centenary of the extermination of the Austrians, despite the enthusiastic popular appeal and the public subscription, did not reach the funding necessary to translate it into marble; the original has been lost, but there are still many pictures.
